WHO is Moxie?
Not who, but what is the answer.
mox·ie (mok'se) slang
- spirited, gutsy, spunky
- ability to face life with spirit and courage
- high energy, full of initiative
Having left established careers and reliable incomes, we felt it took a whole lot of moxie to take such a different direction at this stage in life! While the careers were rewarding, a couple of life events prompted a renewed understanding of just how fragile life is. One was the battle of a dear friend, Jennifer Zelmer, with cervical cancer. Jennifer died in April 2004 at the age of 44 and her unconquerable spirit was a tremendous inspiration to stop 'settling' for a comfortable life. Had Webster had the priviledge of knowing her, he would have placed her picture in the dictionary to define moxie.
The second was the loss of our father, Helmut Fandrich, less than 1 year later in March 2005. Dad was only 67. From the point where his health started failing at the age of 49 and his first heart bypass surgery, he lived absolutely everyday of his life determined to appreciate whatever measure of health he had and to be grateful for God's daily provision in all areas of his life. Dad knew no strangers and had the ability to convey a genuine interest and concern to everyone he met. He was our hero and we miss him terribly each and every day.
